My name is Sofia Batalha and I have just assumed my duties as Consul General of Portugal in Toronto, a position I will try to fulfill with dedication, zeal and professional delivery. It is an honor for me, but also a responsibility.
I come with energy and commitment to serve the large community in this area of jurisdiction (https://toronto.consuladoportugal.mne.gov.pt/pt/o-consulado/jurisdicao), which is known and respected for its work and talent and has great cultural, economic and political relevance in Canada.
I have an extensive consular experience, having been Consul in Australia (Sydney) and in Brazil (Sao Paulo), as well as in charge of the Consular Section in the Embassies in P.R. China (Beijing), India (New Delhi) and in Canberra.
I look forward to continuing the work of my predecessors to develop a closer relationship with you and Canada.
Trade, Tourism and promotion of Language and Culture: you can count on the team of this Consulate, in collaboration with the Portuguese Embassy and the Consulates in Vancouver and Montreal.
My first big challenge will be to try to match supply to demand for consular services. I intend to find solutions to improve the service, including the telephone service, responding to the thousands of Portuguese and Luso-descendants who come to us.
I intend to simplify and "optimize" services and procedures, ensuring a good flow of communication and information.
I hope that very soon I will be able to meet you, promote and value this great community.
