The Portuguese Citizen married outside of Portugal, and divorced after that, cannot get married for the second time, until the first marriage is registered, and if divorced, it has to be registered as well.
The Consulate cannot register the Divorce (artigo 52.º, do Regulamento Consular).
Documents Needed?
Three Documents provided by the Court where the Divorce took place:
- Divorce Application,
- Divorce Order,
- Divorce Certificate;
For this document to be accepted in Portugal, they need to be translated and with Apostille.
Where can I do it?
After the legalization and translation of the originals, the documents should be presented by a lawyer, in a Portuguese Relation Court to be revised and approved;
The Court will send the decision to a Portuguese Civil Registry Office, where they will update the Divorce;
